2001 Catalina C42 MII
The 2001 Catalina 42 MKII in the two-cabin Pullman berth configuration is one of the most highly sought-after layouts of this classic Jerry Douglas design. Renowned for its liveaboard comfort and storage, this specific setup optimizes the forward master stateroom by placing a large double berth offset to the port side, allowing for an expansive private en-suite head all the way forward in the bow.
Interior Layout & Accommodations
- Forward Master Cabin: Features a 6'5" queen-sized Pullman berth to port with deep storage drawers underneath. Opposite the berth is a side-by-side hanging locker, bureau chest of drawers, and a built-in dressing seat.
- En-Suite Forward Head: Located forward of the master cabin in the eyes of the vessel. It features a vanity, marine toilet, and a completely enclosed stall shower.
- Main Saloon: Features a large U-shaped dining table to port that lowers to convert into an additional queen berth. A straight settee sits to starboard, flanked by a custom wine/liquor cabinet and ample book shelves.
- Navigation Station: A traditional, starboard-facing nav desk with a pivoting swivel chair, chart storage, and direct access to the main AC/DC distribution panels.
- Aft Guest Stateroom: A private aft cabin to port featuring a large queen-sized berth, a standalone chest of drawers, and a hanging locker.
- Day/Aft Head: Located to starboard with dual-access doors from both the main saloon and directly from the aft guest cabin.
The Two-Cabin Galley Advantage
Unlike the inline, linear galley found on three-cabin models, the two-cabin layout benefits from a highly functional U-shaped galley immediately to port of the companionway steps. This design keeps the cook secure while underway and includes:
- Large Corian countertops with a molded double stainless steel sink.
- A gimbaled Princess 3-burner LPG stove and oven.
- Heavy-duty Adler/Barbour top-and-front loading refrigerator and freezer compartments.
- An adjacent pantry and custom overhead peg-board dish racks for maximizing storage.
Hull & Deck Specifications
The MKII generation introduced a modernized, rounded transom that lengthened the cockpit and improved aft cabin headroom compared to older MKI models.
Key Performance & Cruising Features
- Deck Layout: Wide weather decks with inboard shrouds facilitate safe, unobstructed movement forward. The deep cockpit features a central steering pedestal, wrap-around seating, and signature stern-rail observation seats.
- Steering & Authority: The MKII features a deeper, higher-aspect semi-elliptical spade rudder. This gives the helm excellent tracking and responsiveness, particularly in heavy weather or downwind runs.
- Anchor Handling: Equipped with a dual-bow roller and an integrated, below-deck electric anchor windlass to keep the foredeck clean and uncluttered.
